THE FITTING PROCESS: first appointment / page 1 of 2

Our fitting process is most likely more involved than you have ever experienced in the past. Each fitting is generally split into two appointments, and depending on your individual situation, usually takes approximately 3 - 4 hours total. The first appointment will last 1 to 1 1/2 hours. (Special arrangements can be made if you live out of the area and would like your fitting completed in one appointment).

Accurate length, wide and volume measurements
are taken to assure the right shell size.

A series of questions will be asked about your skiing background, how long you have been skiing, how often you ski, your choice of terrain and what conditions you prefer. If you have had any problems with your current ski boots we will discuss those issues and ways to alleviating them in your new boots.

A complete and thorough visual inspection of your feet is performed including analyzing the bone structure of your feet. Length, width, instep, forefoot and calf measurements are made as well as a tracing of the foot. (This allows me to make shell and liner modifications between the first and second appointments). I take into consideration how you bear your weight and the mobility or rigidity you have in your ankles. All of the information gathered is to help pin-point the issues you are having with your current boots and how I will proceed in customizing the boot shells and liners.

Generally a custom footbed is made during our first appointment and is included in the price of Strolz boots. I use Superfeet or Conformable custom footbeds depending on the shape of your feet and arch. If you have custom footbeds or full length orthotics that you would like to use I can evaluate whether they will be compatible.  Make sure to bring your footbeds with you to the first appointment.

At this time the first appointment is complete. If I do not have your boot size in stock they will be ordered from the United States importer located on the East Coast. Depending on which shipping method is used the boots will arrive within 2 - 10 days. Ground shipping is included in the price and generally takes about 7-10 days. If you are planning a ski vacation in the near future or you need the boots in a shorter time period, the boots can be shipped by air within 2 - 3 days for an additional fee.
